No One Can Serve Two Masters

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth." Matthew 6:24

In the same way, we cannot serve both God and food/laziness/apathy/gluttony/lack of self control/etc.  Anything which takes our focus on what God desires for us becomes a master we serve, even if for a moment. As stewards of our physical body, as representatives of the kingdom of God, and as those who ought to be intentional about physical preparation for the call to serve, we must endeavor to not let our lifestyle stand in direct contradiction to what we profess. If we serve God and are all-in, then that should work its way into every area of our lives including what we eat, what we drink, and how we live each day. If our daily lifestyle is given over to randomness with food, drink, and lack of movement then we are serving the unfocused mindset of the world's culture and influence....

Beyond Resolutions: Finding Success In Your New Year's Health Goals

The new year is upon us once again. And once again millions will be making their "New Year's Resolutions", a majority of which will focus on some sort of healthier living goal. Losing weight and getting in shape always seem to top the list, yet it seems that every single year more and more people set these as their resolutions and more and more people fall short of their goal. Even though it's almost joke worthy at this point, the sad reality is that nearly 80% of those that make new year's resolutions will have already given up on them by the second week of February. That's not even making it 12% into the year! You know what I'm talking about. January 2nd rolls around and the gyms are packed, everyone's talking about the new diet they're on, and people have the greatest intentions. But give it a few weeks or a couple of months at the most and very few of those who were well-intentioned in this new pursuit are still standing in their endeavor.

Nutrition Success Through Healthy Snack Prep: Nut & Seed Mix

You walk into the kitchen and you just want something quick and easy. Or, maybe you have to get out the house quickly but you need something to eat as you rush to get to your destination on time. For many, these scenarios turn into grabbing the easiest thing around which too often ends up being some form of prepackaged junk. But, if we'll spend just a little time being mindful ahead of time and intentional in preparing for some healthy grab-n-go snacks then we can set ourselves up for a quality and nutrient dense choice. 

For example, it took about 10 minutes today to put together servings of mixed raw nuts and seeds to have on hand for the upcoming week. Raw is the key here though. Raw nuts and seeds have their nutrients fully in tact vs. roasted (especially the ones with extra like smoked or seasoned flavors) that have had some or most of their nutrients compromised through the processing.
